ONE ARRESTED AFTER MULTI-COUNTY POLICE CHASE
The Knox County Sheriff’s Department arrested a man who allegedly led authorities on a multi-county chase.
Officers say the pursuit began when an officer initiated a traffic stop on Pellissippi Parkway at Hardin Valley Road around 3:47 p.m. Friday. The driver, 33-year-old Richard Wayne Roberts, refused to stop and officers pursued.
Roberts led deputies on a chase through Anderson County and ended in Sevier County, where the suspect crashed a Dodge Ram pickup near the edge of the French Broad River near Hodges Ferry Road.
Roberts attempted to swim away in the river but officers used a civilian boat to capture him.
Roberts charged with theft of property, theft, criminal impersonation, leaving the scene of an accident, evading arrest, vandalism, reckless endangerment, and four counts of aggravated assault.
