OVER HALF A MILLION KOBALT YARD TOOLS RECALLED DUE TO SERIOUS FIRE HAZARD
Greenworks Tools has announced a massive recall of approximately 554,780 Kobalt-branded 24V and 48V yard power tools and standalone batteries due to a severe fire hazard.
According to the recall notice issued on July 09, 2026, lithium-ion batteries charged via their USB-C port while still inserted in the yard tools can short-circuit. This defect poses a risk of serious injury from fire. The firm has already received 34 reports of the batteries producing smoke, sparking, or catching fire. Fortunately, no injuries or property damage have been reported at this time.
The affected products were sold at Lowe’s stores nationwide and online at Lowes.com from January 2026 through May 2026, with prices ranging between $20 and $482.

Only Kobalt products utilizing 24V batteries with a USB-C charging port (available in 3.0Ah, 4.0Ah, 5.0Ah, 6.0Ah, and 8.0Ah sizes) are included in this recall.

Consumer Remedy and Next Steps
Immediate Action Required: Consumers must immediately stop charging these batteries through the USB-C port while they are inserted inside the yard power tools.
To resolve the issue, customers should contact Greenworks Tools for a free replacement battery that does not feature a USB-C port. Upon filling out a registration form, affected consumers will receive:
