OVERTURNED CEMENT TRUCK LEAVES SECTION OF LANTANA ROAD A MESS FOR HOURS
An overturned cement truck on Lantana Road near Vandever Road just after 6 a.m. this morning resulted in a mess and the road closed for several hours.
The accident report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol states a 2018 cement truck operated by 56-year-old Joe E. Wilson of Monterey was traveling too fast for conditions, missed a curve and struck an oncoming 2002 GMC driven by 59-year-old Patricia Shaffer of Crossville. Wilson left the road, traveled down a ditch for 30 yards and struck a raised driveway. The truck then rolled onto its side. Both automobiles sustained disabling damage and were towed from the scene. Shaffer was not hurt and Wilson sustained a very minor injury to his forearm. He was cited for failure to exercise due care.
TDOT officials say up to 4 inches deep of concrete spilled out onto the roadway surface. Traffic was detoured using Vandever Road and Leffle Webb Road. State crews handled traffic control and cleaned up the scene. All lanes reopened just before 11 a.m. central.
