POSSIBLY INTOXICATED DRIVER DIDN’T KNOW WHAT STATE HE WAS IN

On Saturday, at 08:54 a.m., Deputy Jacob Brink observed a maroon Dodge Caravan driving southbound on US Hwy 127 S. in the area of Industrial Blvd., passing vehicles in the shoulder of the inside lane. The Caravan was halfway in the grass and halfway on the shoulder of the roadway as it passed.

The vehicle then crossed over both the inside and outside lanes and onto the right shoulder of the road as it was approaching the turn lane of Elmore Rd, all done with multiple vehicles present.

Brink initiated emergency lights and tried to stop the vehicle, to no response. After several seconds with no response, Deputy Brink used his emergency siren. After another several seconds, the Caravan applied brakes as it was trying to turn onto Elmore Rd.

The vehicle rode up onto the lefthand curb, and once on Elmore Rd. the driver finally came to a stop in the roadway.

The driver was identified as Donald Justin Stone, and the report described him as sweating profusely and seemingly very confused. Stone didn’t seem to know what city or state he was in or understand why he had been stopped.

The deputy asked Stone if he had any medical issues, to which he said “No”.

Stone was mumbling throughout the stop, and became progressively more argumentative as the deputy asked dispatch to perform a computer check on Mr. Stone’s driver’s license.

Stone was placed into custody to ensure the situation didn’t escalate, and due to Stone’s driving, his physical
demeanor, and his confusion, Deputy Brink believed he was under the influence of some kind of intoxicant.

Stone was placed in custody and transported to the Justice Center.
