PRELIMINARY HEARING SET FOR FRIDAY FOR TAD CUMMINS

A former school teacher federally charged with kidnapping a teenager appeared in a Nashville courtroom this afternoon. Tad Cummins arrived at the federal courthouse this morning after being held in Henderson County, Kentucky overnight. In court this afternoon, Cummins was advised of the charges he faces and what a conviction could carry. He is charged in the kidnapping of 15-year-old Elizabeth Thomas, as well as sexual contact with Thomas and transporting her across state lines to have sexual intercourse. If convicted, Cummins could face 10 years to life in prison. Cummins was appointed federal public defender Marcus Shabazz and a detention and preliminary hearing is now set for Friday, May 11, 2017 at 1 p.m.
