PRISON PAROLE BOARD CONSIDERING PAROLE FOR CUMBERLAND COUNTY MURDERER

The Tennessee Prison Parole Board met this morning at Bledsoe County Correctional Complex for a parole hearing for a man convicted of first-degree murder in Cumberland County.

Jeannie Brummitt Preston was 25 years old when she was killed September 5, 1987 in Cumberland County by Lawrence E. Goss. Goss was 22 at the time of the murder. Court documents state Preston was beaten to death by Goss with a hammer and she sustained severe fractures to her skull. Her body was left in the Catoosa Wildlife Management Area where she was found six days later. Goss was later found guilty by a jury in Cumberland County and sentenced to life in prison.

District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway was at the parole hearing this morning to advocate to the board that Goss not be granted parole.

State officials say the parole board can take anywhere up to four weeks to make their decision regarding Goss.
