PROPOSED BILL WOULD REQUIRE PHARMACIES TO NOTIFY CUSTOMERS OR LOWEST PRESCRIPTION COSTS
Tennessee State Representative Sabi Kumar (R-Springfield) is proposing House Bill 2897, which would ensure Tennesseans are saving money at the pharmacy.
It would require a pharmacy or other authorized dispensing entities to do everything in their reasonable power to contact and make their customer aware of the lowest available cost of a prescription drug before the sale transaction is complete.
The bill aims to fight against patients paying higher co-pays when they can pay for a cheaper price without using their insurance card.
The proposed law motivates pharmacists to use a software program that will inform them if a medication is available at a lower cost and make the patient aware of the most affordable option.
House Bill 2897 advanced out of the Health Subcommittee last week and is scheduled to be heard by the Health Committee this Wednesday.
The companion bill is also advancing through the Senate.
