PROSECUTORS DISAGREE ON PUNISHMENT FOR FORMER COP WITH CSAM CHARGES
Federal prosecutors and the defense attorney disagree on the appropriate punishment for former Knoxville police officer Dan Roark, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to sexually exploit a child and receipt of child pornography. Roark induced a Virginia woman to produce and send him child pornography of her daughter, whom he knew as “daddy Dan.”
The defense attorney, Gregory P. Isaacs, argues for a 262-month (nearly 22-year) sentence, citing Roark’s difficult upbringing, military service, and remorse. Prosecutor Jennifer Kolman pushes for a 300-month (25-year) term, emphasizing the severity of the crime, Roark’s abuse of trust as a police officer, and his attempts to avoid detection. U.S. District Court Judge Katherine A. Crytzer will sentence Roark on May 2 in Knoxville.
