PUTNAM COUNTY COMMISSIONER RESIGNS AS PART OF PLEA DEAL
A Putnam County Commissioner has resigned following indictments on theft and possession of a prohibited weapon. District 2 Commissioner Scott Stevens resigned his seat on the commission as part of a plea deal reached in court this week. Stevens was indicted on the crimes in 2015. He pleaded guilty in court Tuesday. The judge granted the former county commissioner judicial diversion and ordered him to serve four years of supervised probation. This is the second time this year that a county commissioner has resigned. Earlier this year Daryl Blair resigned from his seat to focus on being the Cookeville Fire Chief. Jimmy Neal took over his position on the commission. Officials are hoping to fill the seat by the September meeting. That person will serve as commissioner until the next election which is in August of 2018.
