On January 27, 2023, Sheriff Farris said, “Putnam County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call at approximately 11:30 pm on Whitehall Road in reference to a shooting. Once on scene, it was determined that Derrick Borchardt was the victim of a single gunshot wound to the face.

Cody Spear, the suspected shooter, is cooperating with investigators. Borchardt was life-flighted to Vanderbilt in critical condition.”

The incident occurred after a verbal altercation became physical between, Derrick Borchardt (son of Amber Borchardt), and Cody Spear (a close friend of Amber). Investigators believe that alcohol played a part in the incident that led to the shooting.

Sheriff Farris concluded with, “We are currently working with the District Attorney Bryant Dunaway and his Office to determine if criminal charges will be implemented based on the outcome of the investigation.”

As of today, January 30, 2023, Borchardt was reported to be in stable condition.
