PUTNAM COUNTY RESIDENTS BEING WATCHFUL AFTER BEAR SIGHTINGS

Residents in Putnam County are being watchful after a black bear was spotted in several locations. The animal was first seen near North Maple Street then crossing over Highway 111 on Sunday. Authorities said they’ve received sightings at 16th Street and Woodland Avenue in Cookeville and near 4th Street and Mahler Avenue in downtown Cookeville. Tennessee Tech University posted an image of the bear near campus, urging the public to be cautious and keep a safe distance. Residents are asked not to approach the bear and report any sightings to animal control.
