PUTNAM COUNTY – Sheriff Farris would like to remind the citizens of Putnam County that there are several scams currently making their way through our county.
The PCSO has been alerted about a phone scam in which the individual is claiming to be with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office. Recent attempts have gone as far as to provide a name of an actual Sheriff’s Office employee.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office will never call you soliciting money for any sort of criminal violation.
Please be mindful that a criminal will prey on the most vulnerable, remember these tips to not fall victim to these scams:
* Always call your Putnam County Sheriff’s Office before sending money or revealing any personal information.
* Scammers tend to include your phone number and/or address as a scare tactic, even though it is personal information.
* Majority of scams ask for Bitcoin as a payment. Scammers try to receive Bitcoin so they can receive large sums of money without a trace back to them.
* If you get a call from someone you do not know, hang up immediately or simply do not answer.
When in doubt, always call your Putnam County Sheriff’s Office for advice before sending money or revealing any personal information. Please report scam activity at (931) 528-8484.
