PUTNAM FIREFIGHTERS RESPOND TO I-40 SEMI-TRAILER FIRE
Early this morning, just after 12:30 a.m., the Putnam County Fire Department responded to a reported semi-trailer fire on eastbound Interstate 40 near mile marker 276. Crews arrived to find the trailer, which was carrying a load of cardboard, heavily engulfed in flames.
For safety reasons, authorities temporarily closed the eastbound lanes of I-40 while firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze. After several hours of intensive efforts, the fire was successfully contained, allowing one eastbound lane to reopen and traffic to begin flowing again.
Firefighters stayed on scene until shortly after 7:00 a.m. to perform overhaul operations and clean up the site. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, though the trailer and its entire cargo were declared a total loss.
