RECORD TENNESSEE CORN YIELD PROJECTED

Corn production in Tennessee is forecast at 119 million bushels, down 1 percent from the October forecast and down 2 percent from the previous crop. Yield was estimated at a record 173.0 bushels per acre, down 1.0 bushels from last month and up 2.0 bushels from the 2017 level. Acres for harvest as grain were estimated at 685,000 acres, down 25,000 acres from 2017. The U.S. corn production is forecast at 14.6 billion bushels, down 1 percent from the October forecast and up slightly from 2017. Based on conditions as of November 1, yields are expected to average 178.9 bushels per acre, down 1.8 bushels from last month and up 2.3 bushels from 2017. Area harvested for grain is forecast at 81.8 million acres, unchanged from the October forecast and down 1 percent from 2017.

Soybean production for Tennessee is forecast at 80.2 million bushels, down 4 percent from the October forecast and down 3 percent from 2017. Yield was estimated at 48.0 bushels per acre, down 2.0 bushels from last month and down 2.0 bushels from a year ago. Acreage for harvest as beans was estimated at 1.67 million acres, up 10,000 acres from the previous year. U.S. soybean production is forecast at 4.60 billion bushels, down 2 percent from the October forecast and up 4 percent from last year. Based on November 1 conditions, yields are expected to average 52.1 bushels per acre, down 1.0 bushels from last month and up 2.8 bushels from last year. Area for harvest is forecast at 88.3 million acres, down slightly from the October forecast and down 1 percent from 2017.

Tennessee cotton production is projected to be 775,000 bales, up 1 percent from the October forecast and up 6 percent from last year. Cotton yields are forecast to average 1,048 pounds per acre, up 14 pounds from last month and up 15 pounds per acre from the previous year. Producers expect to harvest 355,000 acres, unchanged from the October forecast and up 15,000 acres from 2017. U.S. cotton production was forecast at 18.4 million 480-pound bales, down 7 percent from the October forecast and down 12 percent from 2017. Yields are forecast to average 852 pounds per acre, down 49 pounds from last month and down 53 pounds from last year. Upland cotton production is forecast at 17.6 million 480-pound bales, down 13 percent from 2017. Pima cotton production is forecast at 771,000 480-pound bales, up 10 percent from 2017.
