RED FLAG WARNING ISSUED FOR BLOUNT AND MONROE COUNTIES DUE TO FIRE DANGER
A Red Flag Warning is in effect for Blount and Monroe counties in Tennessee from 10:55 AM to 11:00 PM EDT today, March 22, 2025. The National Weather Service in Morristown issued the alert due to a combination of gusty winds and low humidity, creating conditions ripe for rapid wildfire spread.
The warning also includes the eastern Tennessee mountains, their adjacent foothills, and parts of western North Carolina, specifically Cherokee and Clay counties. Forecasters expect westerly winds between 10 and 20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph, and afternoon humidity levels dropping into the upper teens to mid-20s.
Officials strongly advise against any outdoor burning, as fires could ignite easily and spread quickly under these conditions.
A Red Flag Warning signals critical fire weather is either ongoing or imminent. Residents are urged to stay alert and avoid any activities that could spark a fire.
