“RED LIGHT”-TYPE CAMERAS PROPOSED FOR TENNESSEE SCHOOL B– USES

Tennessee school buses may begin carrying high-tech surveillance equipment if legislators have anything to do with it. According to reports, the item is similar to a red light camera with the idea being to catch those who do not stop for school buses during pick-up and drop-off s for students. Cameras would be placed around the school bus and those vehicles and license plates being photographed would receive a $50 citation in the mail. There would be no penalty to driver’s licenses. Both parents and school officials statewide have expressed their concerns over the dangers of not stopping for school buses and how it places children in grave peril. Law enforcement agencies are also recommending the cameras and are in support of the legislation.
