Crossville police recently took a registered sex offender classified as violent into custody. Officers say 57-year-old Joe E. Petree of Pikeville was standing just outside of the Walmart grocery entrance for about 25 minutes. Petree was arrested for violation of the sex offender registry as he was allegedly within 1,000 feet from the Youth Impact Center on Methodist Campground Loop. Petree was ordered onto the registry after his conviction for aggravated rape.
