Authorities in White County recovered the remains of an unidentified female from the grounds of the old water treatment plant, according to a statement released by White County Executive Kyle Goff.

The recovery operation was a joint effort involving the White County Medical Examiner’s Office, the Sparta Police Department, the Sparta White County Rescue Squad, and the Sparta Fire Department.

Following the recovery, the decedent was transferred to the Middle Tennessee Regional Forensic Center, where an autopsy and positive identification procedures will be conducted.

Officials stated that no further details are available as the investigation remains ongoing.
