RESCUE CREWS ASSIST AND HELP DOWN GLIDER PILOT STUCK IN TREE
Crews with the Dunlap Fire Department responded Friday afternoon to a paragliding accident on Lewis Chapel at the gliding ramp.
The glider crashed into the top of a tree and was struck in the tree approximately 100 feet high just under the bluff line.
The pilot was not injured but was unable to descend to the ground.
Dunlap fire officials assembled a rescue team and requested mutual aid from the Piney Volunteer Fire Department.
Rescue crews had to hike an estimated 1/2 mile and descend 400 to 500 feet to reach the base of the tree.
Rescuers were on the scene for over six hours.
The pilot was brought safely to the ground.
No injuries were reported to the pilot or rescue crews.
