RESTAURANT IN BYRDSTOWN RECEIVES NEAR-FAILING HEALTH SCORE
On May 7, 2025, the Tennessee Department of Health conducted a routine food service establishment inspection at Deb’s Place, located at 5885 N. York Hwy, Byrdstown, TN, resulting in a near-failing score of 73. Any Score below a 70 is considered a failing grade.
The inspection, conducted jointly with Kim Davidson, identified several violations.
Notably, 2 pounds of moldy green beans were found in the walk-in cooler and embargoed, while raw fish and hamburger meat were improperly stored above uncovered cooked biscuits in the fridge, prompting the owner to relocate the raw items. Hamburgers were observed reheating at an inadequate 107°F, failing to reach the required temperature within two hours; the owner corrected this by reheating them to 165°F and discussing proper reheating procedures.
Additionally, 1 pound of cooked pork tenderloin was embargoed for being held at 70°F above the fryer, with proper hot holding procedures reviewed. Other issues included a missing thermometer in the fridge, uncovered biscuits, improperly stored scoops, dirty towels under clean utensils, single-serve items stored on the floor, a dirty microwave, unclean shelving, and floors littered with food debris.
Despite these violations, Deb’s Place was compliant in areas such as management awareness, handwashing, and food sourcing, though it did not comply with the Tennessee Non-Smoker Protection Act, and no tobacco products were offered for sale.
