RHEA COUNTY BURRITO SHOP RECEIVES NEAR-FAILING HEALTH SCORE

On July 23, 2025, Mejia’s Crazy Burrito at 7436 Rhea County Hwy, Dayton, TN, underwent a routine food service establishment inspection, receiving a score of 73 with multiple violations noted. The inspection revealed significant issues, including the absence of a Person in Charge (PIC) demonstrating adequate managerial knowledge, as evidenced by multiple violations and a lack of awareness of policies.

Critical violations included improper reheating procedures, with queso and rice on the front line reheated to only 105°F and 132°F respectively, instead of the required 165°F for hot holding. Additionally, pork cooling overnight in a reach-in cooler was found at 47°F, indicating improper cooling methods, and ground beef was held at 131°F, below the required hot holding temperature.

Other concerns included improper storage, such as pork in a deep plastic bowl with a tight lid, wet nesting of clean dishes, single-service items stored on the floor, rusty metal shelves, dirty counters under equipment, and holes in the wall by the back door.

Despite these issues, the establishment was compliant in areas such as handwashing, food sourcing, and sanitation of food-contact surfaces.
