RHEA COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTY SHOT AFTER RESPONDING TO DISTURBANCE

A Rhea County deputy sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound late last night after responding to a domestic disturbance on Morgan Springs Road west of Dayton. Officers learned a male barricaded himself in a bedroom inside the home. When authorities found out the suspect was armed, they started to leave when shots were fired by the aggressor. Officers reportedly did not return fire. The deputy hit was taken to an area hospital. The identity of the suspect was not initially revealed and more information will be released at a later time. The TBI is assisting with the investigation.
