Ridge View Elementary School was placed on lockdown around 8 this morning as a precautionary measure after callers to the Rockwood police reported a woman carrying a weapon near the school property.

State and local police, as well as Roane County deputies, responded.

No such woman was found.

Not all students had arrived at the school at the time of the reported sighting, so several buses carrying students brought them to a safe location off the school grounds while police swept the area.

A school resource officer remained at the school all day, and Rockwood police patrolled the campus throughout the day, for added safety.

Some parents opted to keep their kids home from school.
