ROAD RAGE INCIDENT LEADS TO AGGRAVATED ASSAULT ARREST IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY
On February 27, 2026, around 4:59 p.m., a road rage incident in Cumberland County, Tennessee, escalated into a shooting, prompting a response from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office near Highway 127 North and Tabor Loop. Victims Neil and Elizabeth Kerr reported that while stopped at a red light, a white pickup truck pulling a trailer began aggressively honking. The situation worsened as the vehicles proceeded onto Highway 127 North and then Tabor Loop, where the truck driver cut them off—possibly striking their vehicle with the trailer—and pointed a handgun at them before firing one round. The suspect then fled through a ditch.
Deputies soon located and identified the suspect as 20-year-old Jon Kadan Johnson of Crossville at a nearby residence. Johnson admitted to pointing the firearm at the victims and firing a single shot into the ground. He also confessed to hiding his vehicle in a field and discarding the gun along with related items in a wooded area. Authorities recovered a Ruger 9mm handgun, a magazine, and ammunition from the woods, while a search of Johnson’s vehicle uncovered additional ammunition and firearm accessories.
No injuries were reported, though the victims’ vehicle sustained minor damage. Johnson was arrested and charged with one count of aggravated assault under Tennessee Code Annotated 39-13-102. He was booked into the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, with bond set at $15,000 and a court appearance scheduled for March 9, 2026, in General Sessions Court. The incident remains under investigation, and sheriff’s officials urged the public to avoid engaging with aggressive drivers and to contact law enforcement promptly if threatened, emphasizing how quickly road rage can turn dangerous.
The charges and allegations referenced in this release are merely accusations of criminal conduct, not evidence. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and convicted through due process of law.
