ROANE COUNTY COMMISSION TALKS “AQUATIC WEEDS”

The Roane County Commission discussed “aquatic weeds” at their Monday night meeting. The Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency placed the weeds in Watts Bar Lake in order to “enhance” more species of fish. However, lakefront property owners and boat owners claim the “weeds” cause undue grief. Several spoke out about the weeds during the public speaking portion of the meeting. One boar owner told commissioners that her boat’s propellers got entangled in the weeds while she was in the middle of the lake causing her to become stuck. She eventually freed the propellers and made it back to shore. The weeds are protected and those who own shoreline property are prohibited from spraying them without permission. According to officials, they cannot be sprayed unless by special contractors. The Environmental Review Board is set to meet and review the matter on February 6th at 6:30 PM (EST). Everyone is invited to the meeting to voice questions, concerns and comments.
