ROANE COUNTY FLOOD DAMAGE COULD TOP $7 MILLION
Roane County Officials say that the flooding caused by the recent downpours will cost millions in road repairs alone. County Executive Ron Woody estimates the cost to be $6-7$ million. Road Superintendent Dennis Ferguson has stated that he doesn’t have enough money in his budget to cover the cost. Woody said that the cost of repairs would be paid along the way and even if the majority of the money could be recouped, the interest alone would run nearly $300,000. He stated that the county will be out some of the money and that he’s preparing a resolution to present to the commission in April that proposes that they borrow the money. Ferguson says that there are still a number of trouble spots throughout the county, but that things are shaping up. Winton Chapel Road is expected to open up the beginning of the week. He said that many roads, particularly Airport and Riggs Chapel Roads could be closed as long as three months.
