We have been made aware of a scam in which individuals are impersonating the Roane County Assessor’s Office. The scammer is calling Roane County residents and falsely claiming that they must donate their property to Habitat for Humanity. When residents refuse, the scammer threatens to seize the property through eminent domain.

Please be advised that these calls are NOT being made by any employee of the Roane County Assessor’s Office. This is a fraudulent scheme, and the information being provided is completely false. Impersonating a government office or official is illegal.

If you receive a call like this, do not engage with the caller. Stay vigilant and report any fraudulent activity to local authorities.
