ROANE COUNTY OFFICIALS DEMAND SAFETY UPGRADES AFTER LATEST I-40 TRACTOR-TRAILER CRASH

Traffic on eastbound Interstate 40 ground to a halt once again Tuesday evening following a multi-vehicle crash involving two tractor-trailers and a passenger car. Remarkably, authorities confirmed that no one was injured in the incident.

The collision occurred near mile marker 357.5, causing a major traffic bottleneck that stretched nearly three miles back to the Lawnville Road exit (mile marker 355).

The wreck severely impacted the evening commute, blocking the left lane and part of the right lane. According to officials, at least one of the involved vehicles also struck the median’s cable barrier.

Because the resulting traffic backup was so severe, emergency wrecker crews were forced to navigate down the shoulder of the interstate just to reach the scene. Crews worked efficiently to clear the wreckage, and all lanes of Interstate 40 were successfully reopened by approximately 9:00 p.m.

The incident has reignited a fierce local debate over the safety of this particular stretch of highway. Following the crash, Roane County Commissioner Ben Wilson—a vocal advocate for local highway safety—announced on social media that he and other county leaders are taking their grievances straight to the top.

“We will once again travel to Nashville to meet with officials from the Tennessee Department of Transportation,” Wilson stated, emphasizing that their goal is to keep pushing for critical I-40 safety upgrades and ensure the state makes these improvements a top priority.

Local authorities have not yet released the cause of the crash. This story is developing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
