ROANE COUNTY REGISTER OF DEEDS SUES COUNTY FOR EMPLOYEES SALARY INCREASE
Roane County Register of Deeds Sharon Brackett has filed a lawsuit in Chancery Court to sue the county for what has been described as unfair salary increases for her staff. Brackett approached the county commission before the budget was passed in a budget committee meeting, informing them that her staff has 81 years of experience and that she felt that was not being fairly looked at when raises were being discussed for all county employees through the budget process.
At the time she attended the budget work session last month, she stated she might file a lawsuit to see if she could gain access to the increases for her workers to get her staff the money they deserve. The county commission in the budget passed this year did give county employees a three-and-a-half percent raise increase. Still, it was based on their salaries so if other departments have higher wages then the percentage would be based on that, thus apparently Brackett did not think that it was divided out fairly thus the reason for the lawsuit. We will keep you informed on this as it goes through the ranks in Chancery Court
