The Roane County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging inmates who do not have a GED to try to obtain one while incarcerated.

Officials say that in the 2024-2025 fiscal year, a total of 59 GEDs were earned in the Roane County Adult Education program, of which 31 were by Roane County Detention Facility inmates.

In the current 2025-2026 fiscal year, 14 inmates in the Roane County jail have obtained their GEDs.
