ROANE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE MOURNS HERBERT LEE GRIFFIN

Roane County Sheriff’s Office stated today that their thoughts and prayers are with the Griffin family this week as they remember Herbert Lee Griffin”.

“Herb served with us as a Roane County Sheriff’s Deputy, and a Roane County Bailiff for the Roane County Court House for many years before retiring. A dedicated professional and selfless public servant, he will be missed by many. According to Evans Mortuary, the family will receive friends there on Friday, September 20, 2024, from 1:00-2:00 pm ET. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm ET with Rev. Willie Gallaher officiating. Graveside and interment service will be held in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Rockwood afterward.

Herbert Lee Griffin’s obituary reads:

On Wednesday evening, September 11, 2024, at the Roane Medical Center in Harriman, God called his faithful servant, Herbert Lee Griffin, home to glory.

Herbert (Herb) was born on May 16, 1934, to the late Mac and Waddell Dixon Sanders in Roxie Mississippi. Herb was a past Master at the Harriman Junction Lodge #103, He held many jobs across his career but notably worked as a Security Guard with Y-12, later He served as a Roane County Sheriff Deputy, and a County Bailiff for the Roane County Court House for many years before retiring. His sweet spirit touched the hearts of many, and his faithfulness to God and others was shown throughout the community.

Herb was a devoted and faithful member and Deacon of St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church for many years and was an Emeritus Sunday School Superintendent and member of the St. Mary’s Gospel Chorus and Male Chorus.

Herb was preceded in death by his parents, Mac Griffin and Waddell Dixon Sanders, sisters, Rosa Mason and Valerie Norma (Doris), brothers, Charlie Griffin (Grip), Donnell Sanders, Edward Sanders, and Andrew Sanders.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Carolyn Griffin, daughters, Deloris Griffin, Mary Dale Fuqua (Steven), Marion Jackson (Lewis III), Vickie Dye (Jamil) Jill Johnson (Keith), and Robin Hickey, sons, Herbert Louis Griffin II. (Cyndi) and Gary Hickey (Lisa), sisters, Imogene Weathersby, Shirley Hamilton, Margie McNair (Shelly), brothers, Albert Sanders Jr., Charles Sanders (Kimberly), James Sanders (Katie), and Jimmy Sanders; grandchildren, Melisha Spurlock-Florian (Ernest), Tenelius Spurlock-Wilson (Sydney), Arissa Spurlock-Matthews (Calvin), Roxanna Spurlock-Hunt (Albert Sr.), Kecia Gallaher, Kalen Walker, Lewis Jackson IV, Tyionne Bureguard, Marcus Fuqua (Ashley), Jonathan Fuqua (Nicole), Shantile Crawley, Ashley Griffin, Kierra Griffin, Landon Griffin, Isaiah Spurlock (Sheldon), Anthony (Tony) Griffin (Cassandra), Devin King (fiancé Breanna Loy), Kecia Sanders, Richard Sanders (Lindsey), Tyler Hickey and Rodney Shannon (Lakesha),; great grands, Daysha Aslinger, Kiari Fuqua, Maleigha Hall, Jordan Fuqua, Tallie Mae Fuqua, Ava Griffin, Veda Loy, Silas King, Nahla Griffin, Kortney Sanders, Cameron Sanders, Christian Sanders, Nevaeh Milks, Tyshon Ford, Keymon Johnson, Mikail Johnson, Deloris’s Tribe of Judah: Isaiah, Mylik, Breanna, Ian, Taylor, Tatem, Taliyah, Tianna, Romahn, Romell, Mathias, Heaven’ly, & Junior, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends, devoted friend Willene Gordon, Sis. Gloria McGuire, and his loving and devoted brother, Charles Sanders.

Herb also leaves behind very close friends (like family) from the Quality Private Duty Care of Kingston TN, Sonya Franklin, Christy Pressley, Myma Osborne, and Clifton Reed (Levi).

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 20, 2024, from 1:00-2:00 pm ET at Evans Mortuary. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm ET with Rev. Willie Gallaher officiating. Graveside and interment service will be held in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Rockwood afterward. Evans Mortuary is honored to serve the family of Mr. Herbert Lee Griffin.
