Kingston police officers responded Saturday to a home on the 900 block of Rosedale Avenue after they received information that a female had given birth to an infant and the infant was deceased.

Officers made contact with 34-year-old Amanda Cooper.

She advised officers that she had given birth to a baby earlier, and the baby was still in the residence. The infant was found deceased, wrapped in a sheet on a bed behind the couch where Cooper was sitting.

Medics took Cooper to receive medical treatment.

Members of the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office and TBI agents came to the scene and assisted with the investigation.

Amanda Cooper was released from receiving medical treatment and placed under arrest.

She was arrested for abuse of a corpse. She is being held without bond in the Roane County jail.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
