ROANE FIREFIGHTERS RESPOND TO TWO MASSIVE FIRES

A large fire at the Caney Creek RV Resort in Roane County took place last night off of Hwy 70 near Midtown and resulted in four destroyed RVs. Several explosions were noted at the scene as propane tanks began to explode and spread the fire.
One volunteer firefighter received a cut on his hand and had to be transported to the Roane Medical Center for treatment but no other injuries were reported in Wednesday evening’s fire.
The Roane County Sheriff’s Department was able to block off the entrance to the Caney Creek RV resort to anyone who tried to get in, as many who own campers tried to get in but were unable to take their vehicles in. They walked down to the office where they were given information on the situation.
Highway 70 at the scene also was slowed down due to vehicles on the shoulder of the roadway. The exact cause of what started the fire is still under investigation. High winds at the time were also a causing a problem for firefighters before getting it all under control around 7:30 last night.
But, the action didn’t stop there for Roane firefighters as a call for all volunteer firefighters in Roane County happened again after midnight, to respond to 147 and 207 Shady Trail which runs off of Little Dogwood Valley Road East of Kingston near The Loudon County line.
A house caught fire there last night as well as a second structure beside it, along with several vehicles. After a little over an hour on the scene, both structures were under control and no injuries were reported.
The Tennessee Department of Forestry also sent a dozer over to help in the wooded areas that were on fire as well as several trees at the scene.
Loudon County Fire Department crews also responded to assist The Roane County volunteer Agencies.
Rockwood Electric Utility and EMS also responded, so no doubt a busy evening for the Fire agencies in Roane County on Wednesday into early Thursday morning.
