ROBERTS CHARGED WITH RECKLESS DRIVING AND SIMPLE POSSESSION OF DRUGS

While on patrol yesterday on Highway 70 North, a Cumberland County deputy observed a vehicle approaching and passed by him in the opposite lane at a high rate of speed. The officer turned around and later encountered the driver, 20-year-old Garret Blaine Roberts of Crossville, at the corner of Plateau Road and Highway 70 North.
When he asked Roberts why he was speeding, Roberts reportedly replied he “did not have a good excuse and didn’t think the deputy could catch him.” The officer documented Roberts then said he was traveling at 80 to 90 miles per hour since he got on the highway heading to a friend’s home.
A check of the vehicle Roberts was in allegedly revealed a small amount of marijuana.
Roberts was arrested for reckless driving and simple possession of drugs.
