ROBERTS JR. INDICTED BY GRAND JURY FOR ATTEMPTED FIRST DEGREE MURDER

A Roane County grand jury has indicted 48-year-old Charles Edward Roberts, Jr. of Philadelphia, Tennessee for attempted first-degree murder, especially aggravated robbery and two counts each of aggravated burglary and aggravated assault. He was arrested late yesterday by deputies.

Also taken into custody included co-defendants 20-year-old Lucas Dwight Emily and 44-year-old Tabitha Leeann Emily, both of Philadelphia, Tennessee. Each were indicted for especially aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and aggravated assault involving a weapon.

Court documents state Roberts, Jr. attempted to kill Arthur Abston in Kingston on Christmas day of 2019. Deputies arrived at the scene of a shooting on Ponders Gap Road, where they found Abston suffering from two gunshot wounds. The victim later recovered from the incident.

All three will be arraigned in Roane County Criminal Court soon.
