Rock Creek Campground officially reopened for camping at 9:00 a.m. ET today, Friday, June 19, following a temporary closure. However, park officials warn that strict water restrictions remain firmly in place for the surrounding area.

In alignment with an ongoing “no-contact” order issued by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC), visitors are strictly prohibited from entering or touching the river water. Consequently, the nearby Nemo Day Use Area remains closed to the public.

Prohibited River Activities

Until further notice, the public must completely avoid the water. The ban applies to all recreational activities involving water contact, including:

• Swimming and wading

• Fishing

• Boating (where water contact is likely)

• Any other in-water recreation

Ongoing Safety Coordination

The National Park Service (NPS) stated they are operating out of an abundance of caution. NPS officials are continuing to coordinate water-quality monitoring and incident response alongside several agencies, including:

• Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC)

• Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

• Morgan County Emergency Management

• Local Incident Command

Visitors heading to Rock Creek Campground are urged to follow all posted restrictions and avoid the river entirely until the water-contact order is officially lifted or modified.
