ROCKWOOD CITY COUNCIL TAKES UP ISSUE OF BED & BREAKFAST ESTABLISHMENTS

Rockwood City Council members decided Monday night to be proactive on bed and breakfast establishments that might seek to open there in the future. On first reading the council passed an ordinance to restrict occupancy at B&Bs, and to require that parking not impede the regular flow of traffic on the streets.

Mayor Mike Miller stated he would prefer the council get laws on the books in case anyone wanted to open a B&B in some of the larger homes within the city.

The Planning Commission discussed this recently and member Mike Fuller brought it to the council for possible passage after Building Inspector Harold Ishman began discussions about B&Bs at the planning commission meeting.

At present, there are no construction permits ordered.

The ordinance would need to be passed on second and final reading at next month’s meeting, which won’t happen until the public has a chance to weigh in on the issue.
