ROCKWOOD CITY STREETS UNDERGOING ADA RECONSTRUCTION
If you’ve traveled along Gateway Avenue in Rockwood over the past week or so, you may have noticed that sidewalk entrances from city streets are being reconstructed. This work is part of a Tennessee Department of Transportation initiative using ADA compliance funds to upgrade sidewalks requiring accessibility improvements.
According to city officials, Gateway Avenue is also scheduled for resurfacing later this year, necessitating the completion of the new sidewalk entrances beforehand. The Tennessee Department of Transportation has contracted the work, and progress is underway—over half of the sidewalk entrances have already been repaired, with efforts now focused on the next four intersections.
Pedestrians using the sidewalks should note that wet concrete may be present at times and are advised to avoid those sections until the signage is removed.
