ROCKWOOD HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER INDICTED ON SEX CRIMES

According to the Roane County News, a woman who taught at Rockwood High School has been indicted on sex crimes. The alleged victim is a student.

Sue Yong Battle was indicted on Oct. 18 on one count of solicitation to commit statutory rape by an authority figure and one count of solicitation of a minor to commit aggravated statutory rape. Both charges are felonies.  Battle’s alleged crimes occurred last month. According to the indictment, she asked the student to have sex.

Battle, 36, taught math at Rockwood High School. Rockwood High School Principal Leanne Malicoat and Assistant Principal Amy Breazeale are listed as state witnesses on Battle’s indictment.  The case was investigated by the Roane County Sheriff’s Office. The report said the principal contacted Deputy Greg Sims on Sept. 21.

“Upon making contact with the principal and the assistant principal, they advised that they had been made aware of a rumor both by a teacher and by a student that there were some inappropriate messages sent from a teacher to a student,” the report said.  The assistant principal, according to the report, was advised that Battle was crying and upset.

“The assistant principal went down to the teacher’s classroom to check on her,” the report said. “According to the assistant principal, Mrs. Battle told her about the rumor and stated that she would never be inappropriate with a student. The assistant principal did state that while Mrs. Battle was telling her this that she made a statement that caused concern, stating that she would not do anything without her husband being involved.”

Battle was booked into the Roane County Jail on the charges on Oct. 21. She bonded out the same day.
