RUTHERFORD COUNTY SCHOOLS CANCELS BUS ROUTES DUE TO CONTRACTOR INSURANCE LAPSE

Rutherford County Schools in Tennessee announced that approximately 40 school buses will be out of service at least through Tuesday, February 24, 2026, due to one of its bus contractors losing insurance coverage. The district operates under an owner-contractor model, where the School Board contracts with individual private bus owners rather than owning the fleet directly.
The contractor’s insurance lapse, reported on Sunday, prevents those roughly 40 buses from operating until the issue is resolved. School officials are working with other contractors to cover as many affected routes as possible, but any resulting student absences or tardies will be excused. Even unaffected routes may experience delays.
Families impacted by the specific routes were to receive additional details from the transportation department Sunday evening.
The district expressed appreciation for its contractors and noted that the Rutherford County School Board has scheduled a special meeting on Tuesday to address the matter with the affected contractor. Officials apologized for the inconvenience to families.
