SATURDAY CHASE IN CROSSVILLE LEADS TO ARREST OF WANTED KNOXVILLE MAN

A man wanted by Knox County authorities is facing additional charges after leading authorities on a high-speed chase Saturday morning.  According to reports, shortly before 5:30 am Crossville Police  Sgt. John Karlsven spotted a vehicle that Cumberland County Deputies advised was driven by 51-year-old Jeffery Scott Hampton, who had warrants for a parole violation for robbery and attempted robbery. The suspect’s vehicle turned east onto I-40 at Exit 317 and the officer attempted to pull the driver over near Exit 320.  Deputy Dakota Rucker joined the pursuit but the driver still refused to stop and threw a large bag out of the vehicle at Mile Marker 327.  The pursuit continued east on I-40 with Deputy Lucas Turner getting in front of the fleeing vehicle in an attempt to slow the driver down.  Jeffrey Hampton reportedly got off at Exit 347 and then headed west on the Interstate.  At Mile Marker 346, Hampton attempted to make a u-turn and head back east, but his vehicle crashed into the cable barrier and he was apprehended at the scene of the accident.

Police say among items Hampton threw out of the vehicle were 27 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, 4 grams of a substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine, a set of digital scales, and sandwich bags.  Hampton was charged with Evading Arrest, Manufacture Sale and Delivery Of  Schedule 1 And 2 Narcotics, and Tampering With Evidence.
