SCAM ALERT HAPPENING WITH ELECTRIC BILLS

Cookeville Police Department is notifying the city of a scam alert
There is a phone scam happening in our area where a caller pretends to represent the City of Cookeville and threatens to cut off electricity if payment is not made immediately.
Please be advised that although a City of Cookeville employee may contact you by phone to notify you of a past due balance before turning off services, the City of Cookeville does not contact customers by phone for payments.
The customer service department has received information that a customer was contacted by phone concerning their electric bill. The caller told them that their electricity would be turned off in 45 minutes if they didn’t pay. Luckily, the customer did not give the caller any information.
