SCHOOL START DATES FOR EAST TENNESSEE

In East Tennessee, the back-to-school season is underway, with some school districts starting as early as July 18, 2025. To assist families in preparing, Tennessee is offering a sales tax-free weekend from 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 25, to 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, July 27, during which clothing, school supplies, and computers can be purchased tax-free, with some exceptions.
School start dates vary across districts:
- Alcoa City Schools begin with a registration day on July 18 and resume regular schedules by July 24 for grades 1-12, with Pre-K and Kindergarten starting August 4;
- Anderson, Grainger, Loudon, and Morgan County Schools start August 4;
- Blount, Fentress, and Hamblen County Schools begin July 31 (Hamblen with a half day);
- Campbell County starts August 7;
- Claiborne and Union County Schools start August 6;
- Clinton, Cocke, Greene, Hancock, and McMinn County Schools begin August 1 (Greene, Hancock, and McMinn with half days);
- Cumberland County starts August 11;
- Hawkins and Knox County Schools start August 4 and 7, respectively, with half days;
- Jefferson County starts August 6 with a half day;
- Lenoir City and Maryville City Schools have staggered starts on August 4-5, with full days beginning August 6;
- Monroe County starts August 1 with a half day;
- Oak Ridge begins July 28 with a half day;
- Scott and Sevier County Schools start August 8.
Clinton City Schools will distribute class assignments on July 25 and hold open houses on July 30 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
