The search continues this morning (7 a.m. central, Saturday, August 1, 2020) for a missing elderly Morgan County man.

The sheriff’s department says 85-year-old William “Bill” Whitten left his house late Thursday afternoon on the 200 block of Willard Maiden Road in the Goby area of Morgan County walking to his mailbox. He did not return home.

Mr. Whitten suffers from early stages of dementia.

He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a red plaid shirt. He is a Caucasian male weighing 165 pounds, stands 5’ 10’ with receding grey hair and brown eyes.

Multiple rescue and fire agencies from Morgan and surrounding counties along with the Morgan County Correctional Complex dog tracking team and Tennessee Highway Patrol helicopters are searching the area.

One agency in the search is the Cumberland County Rescue Squad. Officials told 105.7 News late last night this is now a region 2 call out meaning assistance has been requested from rescue squads throughout the state. Crews continue their ground search aided by two helicopters. As of late last night, the coverage has provided no leads regarding where Mr. Whitten is.

Where Mr. Whitten was last seen is roughly 4 miles northeast of Lancing in Morgan County. It is about a half mile from the northern border of Frozen Head State Park.
