CUMBERLAND COUNTY SCHOOLS TO START FIRST FULL DAY OF 2020 SCHOOL YEAR AUGUST 12

In a special called meeting late this afternoon, the Cumberland County Board of Education voted to have the first full day of school Wednesday, August 12, 2020. A half day for registration will be held Wednesday, August 5, 2020.

The board voted 8 to 1 to proceed with the opening of schools with Stace Wirth-Karge being the sole no vote.

“I feel like we need more time for the teachers and parents to prepare for the virtual learning,” said Karge.

Director of Schools Dr. Ina Maxwell reported 936 applicants for the virtual learning. The orientation for those students and parents or guardians will start this Monday, August 3, 2020. Notifications started going out today (Friday, July 31, 2020) of the first wave of orientation. Chromebooks will be assigned to the students taking part in the virtual learning at their assigned orientation date and time. A second window of sign-ups will be offered for virtual learning at a time to be determined.
