SECOND ABANDONED HOME DESTROYED BY FIRE WITHIN 38 HOURS IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

A second abandoned home in Cumberland County has been destroyed by fire inside of 38 hours of each other.

Cumberland County firefighters responded this morning (Wednesday, March 20, 2024) to a dwelling at 145 Coal Hollow Tip Street in Crab Orchard. Crews arrived to see the home fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters took a defensive stance to contain the blaze to the structure and prevent it from spreading to a nearby residence and wooded area.

Officials say the home was unoccupied.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

It is the second abandoned home in Cumberland County destroyed by fire this week.

Crossville firefighters responded Monday night to a structure fire at 1137 Highway 70 East.

Crews arrived to find the abandoned home engulfed in flames.

Crossville Fire Chief Chris South told 3B Media News firefighters were unable to make entry to battle the blaze because of heavy fire conditions and possible collapse hazards.

Chief South said the building was destroyed.

The cause of that fire remains under investigation.
