SECOND BEAR ATTACK IN EAST TENNESSEE IN LESS THAN A WEEK
SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. — A second bear attack has happened in East Tennessee in less than a week. According to the TWRA, on Wednesday around 4:30 PM, a 90-year-old woman was sitting on her porch swing when a mother bear with three young bears came onto her porch. The woman attempted to scare away the bears by shaking a lawn chair at them. The mother bear scratched the woman on her arm during the encounter before running away with the other bears. The woman drove herself to the hospital and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Because the mother bear hurt a human it was euthanized. The three younger bears that were with the mother bear are being monitored by wildlife officials. No other residents in the area have reported any previous encounters with the group of bears.
