SECOND TORNADO CONFIRMED IN UPPER CUMBERLAND, VIDEO OF IT IN STORY

The National Weather Service confirmed this morning a second tornado touchdown in the Upper Cumberland this past Friday afternoon.

The first was in Putnam County with damage starting at South Willow Avenue near I-40 and in multiple neighborhoods north and east to the Falling Water Road area of Buck Mountain. Other areas impacted include Brotherton Mountain Road and Stamps Shady Grove Road in the Monterey area. It had a path width of 75 yards.

The one verified by the weather service today was an EF-0 with maximum winds of 80 miles per hour. The tornado was only on the ground for a little more than two minutes in Overton County. It hit the ground 4 miles south of Livingston and traveled one mile with a maximum path of 50 yards. In ended 3 miles south-southeast of Livingston.

The tornado hit a barn on Clydesdale Farms at 1:15 p.m. central leaving two injured and knocked down several trees.

A tornado warning was issued just a couple of minutes before it hit the farm. The National Weather Service did not have a tornado watch in effect at the time.

Here is a statement from Clydesdale Farms regarding the tornado:

“Life was normal. And then it wasn’t. A tornado touched down right on our barn. Gary and I had just gone to the barn to let Jethro in out of the rain and as soon as we got to the barn it hit. We had no idea there was even bad weather around, just thought it was rain. When we realized it was a tornado Gary grabbed me and ran towards the house to only make it to the edge of the barn. He grabbed a barn pole and me and the pole snapped and he threw us both down and lay on top of me. When we started to get up we were under hay, under a tree, under the barn roof. Gary shimmied out and told me to lay still. I managed to shimmie my way out too and Gary called 911. We’re fine. I have a bruised collar bone and he has a puncture wound in his elbow. Every animal we have is safe and fine from what we can tell. It’s a miracle. Simple as that. I can’t find words to thank Him. All I can think is God is so good. Don’t you ever think there isn’t a God who loves you. He adores you.”

This makes the 22nd tornado in Tennessee in nearly the past 6 months.

The following video spans just over 50 seconds and shows you just how fast a tornado can strike:
