SEN. ALEXANDER DEMANDS ANSWERS TO “LATE” CHIMNEY TOP FIRE REVIEW

Sen. Lamar Alexander is demanding answers to the question of why a damage review of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park/ Gatlinburg wildfires from November has not yet been released. He stressed the importance of such a report at a Senate hearing Wednesday. Alexander spoke to Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke about the report who told Alexander that “we are late on it. I expressed my priority to get it to you by the week’s end, but we are overdue on that report.” The former governor of Tennessee stated that the incident was a “traumatizing event” for those affected. And that the review was needed to address the “lessons that needed to be learned to avoid another such event. Fourteen people died in the fires, which caused nearly a billion dollars in damage
