The 28th Chili Supper and Silent Auction sponsored by Senator Ken Yager is set for November 17, 2023, at Roane State Community College in Harriman. It will be held in the Vann Student Lounge from 5 until 7 p.m. Eastern. Proceeds from the event will go to Family Promise of Roane County, a local nonprofit that serves homeless families with children.

Entertainment for the event will be provided by stars of the Grand Ole Opry.

“I am really excited to resume our chili supper after it was paused for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the cancer treatment I was fortunate to receive last year,” said Yager. “We should have a great crowd at this family and community-oriented event. I am proud that proceeds from the event will support Family Promise, which provides important services to homeless families with children to help families avoid the trauma of homelessness.”

Each year, proceeds of the Chili Supper and Silent Auction go to a different nonprofit that serves the local community and its citizens.

“Our chili supper started in 1994 when I was Roane County Executive” Yager explained. “The first chili supper was in a local high school cafeteria. After my election to the Senate in 2008, we included the counties of the 12th Senate District and the event moved to Roane State Community College to accommodate the larger crowd.”

Tickets for the event will be $5 and can be purchased at the door. Even with inflation, ticket prices have stayed the same since the start of the chili supper in 1994.

“The Chili Supper and Silent Auction has always been an evening of good food, laughter and fun,” added Yager. “I appreciate the many friends who have come to the Chili Supper over the years and hope we have many new citizens join us this year.”

“As always, the same rules apply: serve good chili and make no speeches,” he concluded.
